Cribbage at Zone.com is getting 'retired' on June 19, 2006

From Zone.com Cribbage ( http://zone.msn.com/en/cribbage/article/cribretiring.htm ) :

"As of June 19, 2006, we will be retiring our classic version of Cribbage."

At GameColony.com, on the other hand, we are hard at work on cribbage enhancements. We'd be happy to accomodate many more cribbage players (from Zone.com or elsewhere) to create more cribbage action!

Please make use of our referral program -- refer your friends & once they become Ticket players you'll see commissions accumulate in your account.

Surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!

That does surprise me, I thought zone.msn was very well supported. Must be wrong. But then again they all play for ranking position sad lol

Rankings

I object to the phrase in gjamies1 post "they all play for ranking position". This is NOT a true statement. I did not play in the ratings/rankings rooms so I was never playing for ranking position. Since I did not play for ranking, makes this statement false. I know many who never play in the ratings room. I do know many that did.

Emphasis the Game Colony Strengths

As possible, we need to emphasis the strengths and advantages of Game Colony to those folks from MS Zone. Some of these include:

* Security over the cards; MS Zone had a problem here, all 13 cards (both hands and cut card) were sent to both players in temporary files. There were cheat programs that exploited this. The Game Colony method of storing cards on the server until needed eliminates this kind of cheating.

* Manual Scoring Option - This option is what many the hard-core cribbage players want. This adds a level of competitiveness that is not there with automatic scoring.

* Game Colony deals individual cards, not set hand groupings. MS Zone dealt from a limited set of hand groupings. On Game Colony, every combination is possible.

* Great TDs and Staff of Game Colony

* Support for Both Windows and Macintosh.

* Ability to play for free or for TIX.

These are just a few of my thoughts. You may have additional ones that are better.

Happy Pegs,

Bob 'Moojus' Milk

thanks moojus!

how nice to read such good praise for Game Colony - thank you from all of us. We do our best I'm real excited to greet our new players that will be joining us. I'm sure they will be anxious to learn the ropes and maybe even join in tourney fun here The manual scoring is my favorite here now - for those of you that haven't tried it, please do. Kind of brings back the realness of the game, even when we play via the computer Hope you all have a super weekend

Security

I was so happy to see your post today Moojus.
I've played games all over the web for the last 10+ years. For me, and I'm sure for others, the security issue is one head and shoulders above the others. I had some very serious personal experience with the lack of control and security at another site before GC began.

In addition to the reasons you cited Moo others that might be of interest to some of the newbies..

Our ladders. Some don't care about the ladder at all. To some it is very important. Ours is the only one that pays cash to my knowledge.

Required decency. Isn't it an added plus for many people to know they can bring their kids in to play, their spouse, their mother or even their pastor and not risk being embarrassed by racial slurs, sexual comments and/or profanity?

TDs. Many who have played other sites have commented on the manners and respect shown to our players by our tds. These are dedicated volunteers who love the games, the players and the site. Sometimes they make mistakes but when they do they make an honest effort to correct those mistakes asap.

Support. Have you ever had a response in the time you get one here? I don't think so. It is the policy of GC to answer all questions, concerns and suggestions as soon as is possible. Even those who are not ticket players get their response quickly.

Peers. We simply have the greatest group of players. 99% of those who come are the same folks we would love having as our neighbors. The other 1%. Well from time to time those people will wander in but let's face it. Game Colony is not for everybody. Those who love the trash talk have lots of places to play and they don't stay here long. lol

Webmasters. Last but not least the thing that comes to mind is the dedication of our leaders. They have raised the bar in games and continue to work to improve our experience here.

I'm sure all of our regular players (Cribbage and other games as well) will welcome newbies with that warm GC hospitality that we have all become so looking forward to.. in every tournament and in every game.

Thank you again Moojus for posting. Your dedication and your support for our games, tournaments and the site is so very much appreciated.

Ranking/rating points

Moojus, no offence intended, but if some taken, I appologise. But I am taliking from experience also. They would only play if your ranking/rating points were within 30 of theirs, and didn't appreciate it when the boot, so to speak, was on the other foot and my number was higher than theirs.

Rankings/ Ratings

That happens here too. I run into it nearly every day. When my rating is high, the high rated folks will play, when it is low they will not.

I also run into a lot of folks that will not play me regardless of where my rating is.

As far as ladder, I have never been turned down when I make an a formal challenge, not have I ever turned anyone dome who makes the formal challenge.

Rank, Smank!

Yo! I agree with Moojus. I don't give a damm about my rating or ladder. Please if I'm not having fun, I'm gone! Peace!
By the way, welcome to any new cribbers who might be using this wonderful game site now. We have our disagreements but all in all; it's for the love of the game.
So keep on Cribbin my Fellow Cribbers!
TNT

p.s. rank! it's only a #, ladder only a step and both subject to change!

Have some respect for what others like

A couple of months ago there was a monsterous discussion about rank. Not everyone plays for the same thing. I'm new here and have not decided what my choice is but it probably will be ratings. That said, players in GC seem to play for four different reasons: Tickets, Ratings, Rank or only for fun. Enjoy your games and quit grousing about what other folks like! GC offers the choices so let each enjoy what they like.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
