HERE I GO AGAIN...

I play games all over the web...if I sign up for a game I have to br there ready to play ... ON TIME !!! I love you all and know we are friends, but but extending the start of a money tournement is just too much for me. There's plenty of time to get out if something comes up ... if it's a connection problem I never have had a problem getting a refund from GC or anyother site. As far as I'm concerned holding up the game is uncalled for and very unprofessional on CG part for allowing it to keep happening. I don't dislike anyone when it happens, it's the ethics of the thing.

Delay of Tournament Start

Hi Nobs and all,

I agree that tournaments should start on time. I am sorry but I know that in the past (prior to this month), I have been guilty of arriving late.

In addition to folks arriving late, there is another problem; the clocks on Game Colony frequently read a time that is later than real-world time I define real-world time as the time maintained by the US National Institute of Standards, the official timekeepers for the US. An example is the Game Colony clock may read 10 PM while NIS time reads 12:58:20. I, and many others sync their computer clocks to NIS time.

I know that it is requested and recommended that folks arrive 5 minutes early, but the fact is many wait until the last minute to arrive. There are TDs that will 'out' you if your are not in the room at the correct time; this has happened to me. This is my fault, not theirs.

I personnaly feel that GC is bending over backwards to meet the requests of all; that is the fact that all clocks are not set the same, and have a brief window for this difference.

Game Colony is a VERY FRIENDLY site; and tries very hard to accomodate many circumstances. There are tournaments on other sites that will not allow signups with less that 5 minutes before the start of the tournament.
Given the present intimacy of the cribbage community, I like what Game Colony is doing for its members. There may come a time, when Game Colony has to revisit this policy.

I am now stepping down from my soapbox.

I may be wrong, but I believe G/C's clock is set on GMT time (which is the accepted time for most of the world). I also think that within the 5 min mark, players should not be allowed to join the tournament.

Time of day is not the problem when TD says "we are waiting for 1 player". But it seems I'm beating a "dead horse" about this. There is no question this is the BEST crib site by far, I love it here and the majority of players are great people. So I'll "shut up" about this hang-up of mine. Hope I did not offend anyone over this I have silly ideas at times, If my Grs appointment is at 20 and I'm still waiting at 2:15 I leave! It's the [people willing to wait in the loby for hours that cause the problem not the staff. LOL

no offense taken here nobs :)

Hon don't u even worry about offending anyone - this forum is totally about open communication and working out problems that might come up at Game Colony. Better to say something than to fester, you know? We all know that Ma has had issues about this from the start, and I always felt like I was beating a dead horse every single time I brought it up.
I have to say I AM relieved that all TDs are required to follow the same policy now, this makes me feel a lot less like an ogre. That being said, however, the problem has not been solved, as you mentioned. Now we are ALL required to wait that extra time. I know Moojus has talked about the clocks being off before, and I agree there is always a little differential there, no doubt about that!!!! So this DOES help players who may be a little off on their own computer clocks or whatever......But the fact remains the same. Players are asked to be in the room 5 minutes BEFORE the tourney, which would eliminate any doubt with time issues and such. That is a courtesy I appreciate. But on the other hand, we all run late at times - I know I have myself, as director. Things happen, and I am no better than anyone else in this regard.
I am thankful to webbie and admin for implementing official "rules" so that we TDs can be consistent, and now we know what to expect - by 2 min after, your time is UP So I am satisfied with this solution for now, and I hope everyone will work on maybe getting there just a bit sooner.
Just for your info, too, the TDs now have a special "button" to click on to disallow further signups. I personally use this button EVERY tourney now - as soon as the hour strikes I use this tool so that we don't get any surprises. I know many times we would be waiting on ONE to show, and once they got there we would start, only to find another signed up last minute and wasn't there yet. This isn't a problem anymore, if the TD is using this "disallow button". I think this helps also, and I am really very happy about this new system.
Like you said, we do our best to accommodate everyone. Hope you won't give up on us, Nobs. We appreciate you - you're a good friend and good player - and you DID NOT in any way have anything to apologize about this ok?
Have a super day, and we'll see u at tourney time hon

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
