LOSS OF A GREAT PERSON AND CRIB PLAYER
Posted by DonL (TD) 12 Mar 2007 2:17pm

On sunday March 11th we lost a member of the GAMECOLONY and ACC family. Zeke Veradt aka Gramp zv lost his battle with cancer. He was sick for a very short amount of time. I can honestly say that he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. When playing crib in person or on this site always a "hello", "gl","nice hand".........ALWAYS. He will be sorely missed. If anyone has any other comments or thoughts plz post. TY all for your time. DONL

So sorry to hear this

Gramp_zv (Zeke) will be remembered as a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He loved crib with a passion and I know there is a seat waiting for him at that cribbage table in the sky. What a legacy he leaves, to be held in such high esteem by all that knew him!

Happy pegging Zeke!!

That is such sad news to hear. Grampz was truly a gentleman. Mrs. Grampz and he were a beautiful couple and played in tourneys in the Massachusetts area. The people who came into his world are truly blessed for having known such a wonderful man. For those who had the pleasure of knowing him, I am sorry for your loss. Grampz will be sorely missed.

We never met but he was always very sweet when we played and since I am so new to the game he gave me pointers. He let me tell him of my minor victories in grass roots and my crushing defeats in live ACC tourneys...he will be missed.

I, too, am at a loss for words. Gramps will be missed by many and my heart and prayers go out to his family who were lucky to have been blessed with such a wonderful man in their lives, as are all of us here at Game Colony who had the pleasure to know and love this kind human being. With loving thoughts, Paula

Ships are not built for the harbor,
surely in life there is more.
The journey is what brings fulfillment
to a life that is worth living for.

From the heart comes the hope of the present,
from memories dreams from the past.
From the soul comes the spirit of living,
from experience lessons that last.

Look ahead to see where you are going,
look behind to see where you have been.
Look inside to discover your purpose,
then let your life’s voyage begin.

Take care as you sail to your future.
Share kindness with people you meet.
Take heart in the oceans you conquer,
till your journey through life is complete.

And when your life’s voyage is over,
when your sun starts to set in the sea,
pass on to the next generation
the joy that the journey can be.
Look ahead to see where you are going,
look behind to see where you have been.
Look inside to discover your purpose,
then let your life’s voyage begin.

Take care as you sail to your future.
Share kindness with people you meet.
Take heart in the oceans you conquer,
till your journey through life is complete.

And when your life’s voyage is over,
when your sun starts to set in the sea,
pass on to the next generation
the joy that the journey can be.

Always enjoyed playing and chatting with you Pa. You will truely be missed, for the person you are.

Best to the family

Gramp zv was an outstanding cribbage player, a fixture in the gamecolony community, but best all of a nice person. He is the top tournament player and that will not be forgotten. My girlfriend does not like all the time I spend online but if I had to ask her one screen name of my opponents she would blurt out gramp zv. Even she knew that he was a dedicated cribber. My regards to the family.

GREAT GRAMPZ

It was truly a pleasure to know you and even better to play with you....You were a gentle man as well as a gentleman...Your spirits were always high as was your genuine kindness for any player, whether new or old....You took your wins with gratitude and your losses with better luck next time....I will miss you my friend....and thank you for your wisdom and great pointers....

Now it's your turn to be the Great TD in the sky....just save us a seat at your table....

And in YOUR HONOR, as Derbys has suggested...I will host a tourney in your honor on Sunday March 18th at 5pm.....Most of your friends will be there too, I know....I will donate my earnings and ask all the winners too, to send them to Cindy with our SINCERE thanks to her for allowing her to share you with us.

You will truly and most dearly be missed....Until later Gramps....from your sonnnnnnn too, (as I wipe the tears) 1okaylady

God Bless grampz and family

I met Gramps & Cindy in Reno twice. Such a delightful couple. Akways a gentleman, WIN OR LOSE! He joked with me,laughing & saying, "Glad to always play a player older than me"! Impossible to replace people like him. Cindy, may god help you in this trying time. Thinking of you.

Zeke was an excellent player but more importantly, an even better human being! We played many games, mostly in the "early" GC days and anyone was better for having known/played him. My hearfelt condolences go out to Cindy and family. Grampz lives on in your hearts and in ours too.

Oh Pa I wish I would have known you were sick - I enjoyed every moment you spent in my tourneys and outside of them. You always made me feel special, from the time ol Jer was training me, it seems like forever ago. My hubby isn't very social, but he is also sad to see u head upstairs too because you were always friendly to him, and very considerate to all. You were a wonderful man and a true friend, and I will never forget you. God will keep dealin cards ur way until we can join u my friend.
Love,
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Good -bye Grampz

My sincerest condolences Cindy, Zeke was one of the finest gentlemen we have had the honour of knowing. It's a sad time for the entire cribbage world, both online and offline, to lose such a great player and even greater friend to all. He will never be forgotten by those who had the pleasure of knowing him, and whose lives were made better in so many ways by his kindness and joy of life.

I am so sorry

I haven't hosted that much in crib lately and just the other day took a look at the crib all-time ladder tournies and noticed that GRAMPS had not played as much as usual. I didn't know he had played his last game in Game colony and I am sorry to have missed his tribute. He was always so pleasant and wonderful to joke with, a lesson I am trying to learn. I will miss him for the short time I knew him. Bye GRAMPS

What a great community

I never read the forum. MsMary suggested I do. So tonight I did and came across this sad news. I was wondering why I haven't seen him in any tournaments for the last while. I didn't play him alot, but when I did he was a gentleman and I certainly consider him the king of cribbage on Game Colony.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
