I would like the very good players to take a look at leaving the small ticket number tournaments to the average players.
Play your level of players in the more expensive tournaments and leave the little guy a chance to enjoy playing aganist opponets that are moore on the average.
It's not a lot of fun to be up aganist the big boys It's like you are taking advantage of us play your peers.
Than You

I disagree

I'm not sure which category I fall into BathWater, but as much as I'd love to run with the "big boys" in the expensive tourneys, I simply can't afford to play for 25 tix a pop and I think GC welcomes any and all who want to play in the tourneys, regardless of their skill level.

Now, if you are talking about the 1 tix "beginner" tourneys, then I'd agree with you, that we should leave those to the inexperienced so they can enjoy the thrill of tourney play; however, I think the competition here at GC is great and I enjoy getting the opportunity to compete against the "big boys" - I think that's the only way one can get better.

Anyone else have any opinions on this?

When we start out in life everyone before us are the "big boys"!! the same goes in game playing! Someone is always better and those who are equal or less skilled are many!! The challenge in life and the pursuit of happiness is that we face the more skilled and learned to beat them ...or learn to lose gracefully and return for the next lesson!!
I guess what it boils down to is ..if you want to run with the "big dogs" win or lose, go for it!!! If you want to have fun, it is my experience that running with with all the dogs beats the heck out of sitting on the porch!!

It's your choice...pick and have fun no matter what!

I welcome all players in my tourneys

I think there is ample opportunity to "practice" or "improve" as you play in main hall, or you can always jump right into tourney play and get a feel for it there. I would hate to "discriminate" against certain players in tourneys simply based on ranking or experience. I have to reminisce about Pa for a moment, because no matter what I did I almost ALWAYS lost to him in tourneys.....with the rare exception. I think Pearle or OkayLady will remember the many times I was paired with Pa and had nothing to say but "oh crap"....haha But I always had a good time, and enjoyed being included in tourney play - everyone has a lucky day....I have had newbies to Game Colony take first place in a tourney!
I welcome ALL players to my tourneys, high and low tix alike, and I hope you will come to meet new friends and maybe even a mentor who can teach you a few tricks of the trade Tourneys are a social time, to me, both as a host AND when I'm playing.........regardless of the outcome I simply enjoy the game and enjoy the company I encourage everyone to try it out, at least once...you may just like it
Love,
MA!!!!!!!
P.S. I thought I remembered seeing special tourneys for beginners - please watch for these low tix tourneys that can help "break in" the newbies and prepare them for the "big time" lol

All Tournaments Open to All Who Pay TIX

I believe that since we are willing to put up TIX (hard cash) we can play in any tournament. Anything else would fall into the 'discrimination' category.

That being said, I played in one beginner and will leave those for the beginners.

TOURNEYS

I ALSO THOUGHT THAT ALL MONEY TOURNEYS WERE FOR ALL WHO WANT TO PUT UP THEIR TICKETS. I DO NOT PLAY IN BEGINNERS TOURNEYS IF THEY SAY THAT BUT ALL OTHERS ARE FAIR GAME

There is currently nothing in the GC rules that restricts certain skill level players to certain money tournaments. Any player who ponies up the money to play can play in any $ event, period. Whining about wanting the "better" players to only play their "peer" skill level opponents is pretty incredible, at least to me. I think the main reason some TD's are now labeling their 1 ticket events for newer/beginner players is simply to generate more interest in $ tournies so more players will ultimately and eventually sign up for the average tournies that appear to average about $9. Not necessarily a bad or a good thing, just the way it is.

If a player wants to upgrade their skill level in order to better compete for fun or money, I would respectfully suggest they play many more free games first before risking their cash, read books on the game strategy, join a local cribbage club and of course a tried and true way is to play for money (lose and learn) and eventually you will become better.

No one starts out in any game as a highly skiled player, it takes time and effort and learning from one's mistakes along the way. See you all in the next $1 tourney.

I agree with Pete. "Come let's play for tickets, but only if you're not that good."

My thoughts

All GameColony tourneys except those special tourneys such as "TD ONLY" or "TOC" are open to all verified GC players.

Our tds are very sensitive to the requests of our players. We all try hard to create tourneys when possible, to meet those requests. As we have been having many new players joining our games, we had many requests for help understanding the tourney rules, how the brackets worked, what role did the td play etc. So a few of our td volunteers stepped up to try to meet these needs. Still everyone is welcome but our seasoned players should realize when they join one of these newbie tourneys that patience and understanding is not only expected but required.

Each rule is explained carefully and questions are answered regarding that rule. Sometimes the true newbie will set the table wrong several times and that's ok because after all this IS a training tournament. Not to teach the game but to teach how to play our tournaments.

Now, the "Newbie tourneys" are still open to ALL and we have some seasoned tourney players who are very happy to help anyone who is a true newbie. We were all newbies at one time or another and we never forget those who gave us that helping hand when we needed it.

I hope this helps to put it all in perspective and if you are a player with patience and extra time please do feel free to enter our newbie tournaments. You will always be welcome.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
