As a matter of interest, is the scoring system used here a universal way of doing it? It seems to me that the only use the score next the name is, is in showing if someone is having a good run or bad run. It doesnt matter to me one jot if I play someone with a rank of 1700 or 1300. Would'nt it be better to show a calculation showing how many games a player has had divided by the amount they have won? For instance if someone had played 160 games and won 85 of them, they would have a rank of 1.8 - the lowest number being the better rank. If it was done over say the last 500 games a player had played, it would also show that players current skill level. It would be a far better indication of the opponents prowess. Any thoughts anyone?

ELO rating system is used here. Professor ELO's rating is a significant improvement over a simple win/loss ratio. In addition to win/loss, rating takes into account the initial ratings (strength) of both players, thereby distinguishing the 'quality' of a win/loss.
For example, a win of a lower-rated player against a higher ranking player will get a greater boost in rating (and it should) than in a simple win/loss system.
To judge the strength of a Ticket player, it is certainly worthwile to look at this player's wins versus losses in mini-tourneys (versus free games). If a percentage of wins is more meaningful to you, it is a matter of simple calculation based on available information: Wins divided by Total Number of Games multiplied by 100%

According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
