I agree with a previous post about the rating system simply for the following reasons. I am no master at the game of Backgammon but I can play a reasonable game (dice allowing), the problem is that if you lose 3 or 4 games on the trot (or 15 as has been known in the past ) your rating drops to 1200 or similar. that doesnt bother me too much, I've been up in the 1700's many times too, its just that if you join a player with a high rating and yours happens to be low at that point, they generally kick you off without a bye or leave, or the more polite players so 'no ty!'. If the win % was displayed aswell it would give a clearer indication of the players long term ability.

To be abdolutely honest, if someone kicks me off a table due to my rating they should have the table as 'invite only' but if that is the way they feel I'd rather play the other 99% of players who play for the fun, challenge and friendship the site promotes.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
