I am a senior citizen. I love to play canasta! I play for enjoyment period. I do not like being called a "rude puke" because I closed my table when I got beat. I used to complain to GC about people being rude, hasslling me on the chat, etc. I don't do that anymore, I either ban, or close my table to those players. When I beat a person, they leave my table, does not bother me, so when I lose, I close my table. I am not being rude, just getting on to the next game, as are the other players who leave my table. You have a wonderful site and it has given me a lot of pleasure. I just wish the people that use it could be a little nicer. These are the things I call rude, taking over the minute allowed, holding the last card for the full minute before playing, taking over the minute until they get warned. This is rude to me, and I don't play those people anymore. If a player thinks I am rude, don't come to my table.

RIGHT ON PJMAKER.
Although MOST PLAYERS are extremely nice, there are those few who are extremely rude.
I have even resigned games and took the loss rather than play those players.
Players we all need to remember that canasta is,
afterall, ONLY A GAME.
We all tend to get aggravated when we lose sometimes, but we should act like adults too.
Unnecessary delay of the game as PJMAKER discussed is just PURE CHILDISHNESS.
We all need to remember what my Mama taught me
and probably a lot of your Moms taught you--

DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM
TO DO UNTO YOU!!!

In years passed Canasta was considered a "gentleman's game", much like Chess. Courtesy was just simply part of the game. The important thing to remember is that courtesy is contagious! Slip into our Cribbage room sometime if you are curious as to how nice it is. So my advice to you who care, is to ask you to set a perfect example. It makes people feel good and then they, in turn will start to behave in the same manner they have seen from you. Second: Try real hard not to let careless and unacceptable remarks throw you or cause you to respond. One of two things will happen. Either the player will fall right into our acceptable behavior or he/she will crawl back to where they came from because our regular, courteous players will not play with them.
Also remember you have a tool for inappropriate chat. You can mute them. Use that tool. Now of course if vulgar, racial or sexual comments are made to you, please do send a contact us. Webmaster has a very effective way of handling those things. Under no circumstances should you try to "battle it out" with an unacceptable player.  Let GC handle those things for you. That being said, one other thing.. Please don't be a nit picker. Remember some people cannot use the chat at all. If you consider not responding to your honorable message as being rude, just get over it. LOL Some people want to play with no conversation and that is not always being rude and perfectly acceptable. I want to remind you that some of our players are not English speaking, some are handicapped, some are sight impaired and on and on and on. So set the example! YOU be kind and courteous and watch it spread.
I'm thinking on some sort of random selection of extraordinary courtesy and a little reward for those people. The main thing we must all remember is that Canasta is a game of honor. So if you really do care about our Canasta rooms please do display that honor.

seems that a lot of players are coming from yahoo etc and thats where all the rude players were. I use to play there years ago until i found GC, dont let a few measly players ruin your gaming experience.

According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
