Each player has his/her choice as to ways to compete. It is true that the ladder is not for everyone. Those in the top twenty should be willing to defend their position frequently. The new rules will make it much easier for those who wish to climb (the climb is the real fun) and harder for those who want to hold on to those top slots no matter what.

Our goal is lots of movement at the top. So the top will require a few additional rules to make the legitimate competition at the top as fair to all players as possible.

I would say although rules changes are required it also has something to do with players willing to play others with lower ranks and ratings as well. Sure I understand the desire to polish that rating or get a high rank. That said there are some players out there who are willing to play lower ranked and lower rated players and kudos to them.

I am sort of new to all of this, played dominoes and gin here in gamecolony too. But I am not a player that can buy tickets so I just play the ladder for fun, but I play all players, high, low, unranked, just for the fun and the thrill of climbing that ladder.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
