Are you a good player?

Let's face it, GC is thriving with good players nowadays, but when you break it down, how many of them are actually GREAT players?

Is it just me struggling for names?
I see a lot of people with their heads in the clouds.

What is the criteria for a great player?

Q.1. Are people with a high rating and high win percentage great players?

A.1. Don't be silly, good players they maybe, but stats are not always indicative of skill. Also when you worry about the stats too much, you might start to pick and choose who you will and wont play.
That would mean you wont play anyone that crosses your path.
GREAT players play anyone!
Q.2. I have a very accurate shot and I can place the cue ball in the vicinity of where I want it to end up, does this make me a GREAT?

A.2. This is a required skill, but it is only part of it. A great player can make any shot they come across, with or without an obstruction. They are able to do banks off any cushion to pot in any pocket, They can make plants at any angle, not just the 2 ball lined up plants and even with 3 or more balls. If confidence is running low, then they will be capable of playing a safety shot.
All I ever see is people going for the simple shots hanging over the pockets. I guess that's the winning is everything factor.
Great players take a few risks in order to entertain with a little trickery, showing exactly what they can do. They make very few mistakes, meaning they allow their opponent very few opportunities.
Consistency is key.
And finally for now, Sportsmanship is something I'd include too.

I haven't done this post describing myself, but I do try to play by these guidelines but consistency is the problem for me.I make too many mistakes.
When I'm good, I amaze myself, but when I'm bad, then I'm hopeless. So I know I'm not a GREAT player, but I can check a few more boxes than most players.

So pick the bones out of that!

Anyone have anything to add to the criteria?
I'd love to hear it, let's get the discussion rolling.

To be a great player, you have to hit great shots. Watch other good players...how hard they hit it....what english they use...IMMULATE them. It's the best way to learn...if you're playing but not watching, its gonna be tougher to improve.

Great Players don't talk trash, and great players may even try to help other players get better.

You a great player? RUN EM OUT THEN

Just Play

Who cares about " great " players etc. Just play the game. No need for trying to seperate the best from the worst/

Thanks

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
