BG IS WHY I CAME

I came to GC becuz of BG. And when I arrived the backgammon room was alive and hustling. Tourneys were available on a regular basis and the competition for ladder position was a huge driver. After a couple of years of this "HAY DAY" environment, I left BG as a primary gaming room. What happened then was interesting to watch. Quite a few big game players moved in. It became difficult to get someone to sit at a simple 2-3 pt. match for minimum $$$. Then eventually the little guy just kinda vanished along with ladder tournaments. But let me tell you the "hay day" was a grand time! So I and several TDs are going to resurrect em! Come join us, it IS really, really fun and the competition is everything you could hope for. Don't be surprised - all you bluecoats - when I invite you to join me as we revitalize the BG room and ladder.

According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
