A question?

Please people answer me a small query I have. Am I imagining it or do some people take this game far too seriously???

an opinion

all serious players should ----drop and go to pool pro"s obedience training. Or drink more alcohol while playing

Quite Layed Back Actually

Most of the time, seriousness rears its head around the 25th of each month. Ladder climbers are the most notorious. However, this room is nothing like it used to be. Caring about the outcome of a friendly game of pool was the rarity. Money games flourished ... party atmosphere you could depend on ... exhibition tourneys where big dogs strutted their stuff ... chat bent on entertaining the room ... AHHHHH THOSE WERE THE DAYZ! Who can walk down memory lane with me? Anyone left out there???

Yes I agree the fun and laughter has long since gone which is a shame, so many decent players have deserted pool for that very reason, that, and the stupidity over Ladder Challenges by those few who try to sabatage players (how obvious are they !!). Shame I think for those who make the effort, and ALL for the right reasons, in the name of fun, to climb the ladder and improve their games ..... BUT NO there are still those few childish misguided and SAD individuals who seek to annoy, infuriate, spoil and turn a perfectly good sport into somthing distasteful. Come on all, lets get this pool room back as it was !!! I miss it. Let the Good rule over Evil. Jane.

Well said

I miss them. It was fun, exciting, and competitive! Maybe those days will never be back, but they were fun while they were here

After reading the challenges, put up by the usual suspects, AKA the people I started this forum about, I find myself asking once more.
Is there far too much seriousness and if I'm honest aggression put into the challenges made to the players who sit in the top ladder slots?.
It all seems a little too much for a web site designed for people to play games and chat doesn't it!!!!!

NOT A PROBLEM IN OTHER ROOMS

I frequently play multiple ladders here at GC. This room is the only one where people get all personal and retaliatory. I can never understand whats the challenge of it all. In gin there are rarely challenges posted ... do you know why? Because everyone plays everyone!!! The same goes for BG. I guess there will always be little cliques who manage to manuever to the top ten and then only play each other fairly, frequently and friendly. I miss the players who play everyone whether they are outstanding, beginners or old souls. To avoid the frustrations of those cliquers, I just don't hang in here much anymore. Sad

Your Question Stacy .....

I agree with you .....

As Gandhi sort of said plus my "bonehead" input lol ........

Strength does not come from "WINNING" but you develop strength of character and decide not to conform to the "masses" ........ THAT IS STRENGTH !!!! Be your own person and enjoy what should be a fun game !!!!!

How interesting, you come over as nice and friendly in your post, yet when we played in a gin tournament 2 weeks ago I didn't even get a hello out of you...................An off day perhaps?

My Own Imperfections

I am sorry Pauline ... but you are right. Frequently I choose to not greet or congratulate my opponents. It is not meant to be punitive. But I realize now it comes off rude. And that REALLY doesn't work for me. So, friendlier and chattier will be a new focus. I know you and Patricia are great gals who always display classiness. I shall join you (again)

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
