Every year on the last Monday in May, United States citizens observe Memorial Day, a holiday which honors all those who have died in military service to our country. Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day began as a way to commemorate soldiers who died in the Civil War in service to the Union Army. It became Memorial Day after the First World War, and it now honors all men and women who have died in military service, in all branches of the U.S. military. This federal holiday has a rich, fascinating history, and it holds enormous significance in the lives of so many Americans.
History of Memorial Day
Just how Memorial Day began is not known for certain, but many believe that it started in Charleston in 1865 when thousands of freed slaves and Union soldiers gathered at a race track to celebrate the Civil War victory and commemorate those who had given their lives for the Union’s cause. Similar gatherings were taking place throughout the Union and particularly in the Confederacy, often before the war had even ended.
After observing how the former Confederacy honored its fallen soldiers, Union General John A. Logan is credited with pointing out the need for a regular nationwide holiday acknowledging all American soldiers who had died for their country. Logan was the head of a veterans group called the Grand Army of the Republic, and he used his position and influence to create Decoration Day and to encourage Americans to observe it reverently.

I always appreciate your posts peg. A hearty thank you to all the vets who paid the ultimate price for their country, as well as those who are retired and those still serving. My wish is that someday the human race will finally grow up and put an end to the need for war altogether.

According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
