Ladder?

I have a question. The rules say that ALL $5 tix and above qualify for a ladder move up. (except top 10/20). Nowhere in the rules does it say the table must be set to ladder. Do the rules need to be changed?

Ladder & non-Ladder games

Ladder rules as listed in www.gamecolony.com/ladder_rules.shtml
apply to Ladder-designated 2-player games and multiplayer tournaments.
At this time all of GameColony Tournament Directors create their multi-player tournaments with Ladder designation.

Two-player games, however, by default are not designated as Ladder. If you create a table, you can select a 'Ladder' option. If you are about to join someone else's table, option 'L' signifies that a table is for Ladder games.

I have read the rules but....

That is not what the rules say. The rules clearly state that EVERY $5 tix or over mini-tournament is a ladder step-up. It says nothing about tables having to be set or designated as ladder. Either include this in the rule, or eliminate the EVERY word.

Below is a quote from www.gamecolony.com/ladder_rules.shtml mentioning that 'Ladder option' for a table needs to be set.

"For a non-$Ticket game to count as a Ladder game, the players can only play the same person once within a 24-hour period. For $Ticket games with Ladder option, there is no such limitation - any number of $Ticket games can count as Ladder games if Ladder option is set."

And another quote: "To join GameColony Ladder, all you need to do is play a game at the table with the Ladder setting on."

Considering the mere existence of the Ladder option for game tables, we thought that there was a clear and self-evident way to distinguish Ladder and non-Ladder games.
per your note, however, we will be adding a section in ladder rules detailing setting a Ladder option for two-player games.

Thanks

I don't know about others but it would seem that having ladder set up as default would be better.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
