Tournament format...what is allowed as options by TD's
Posted by Board_Sailor (VIP) 7 Sep 2015 5:36pm

Just played a tourney in which first opponent set table as "N", which means played cards are not shown.

Having not seen that allowed in over 2,000 tourneys, I questioned the host and was told that it was not prohibited in the rules. In this case, the rules were not shown before the tourney. It may in fact not be shown in the rules, if they are shown, but it would be nice to have a ruling on this option. Is it, or is it not permitted to set a tournament game as played cards not shown? The default settings as they appear when setting a table, don't set as no show cards.

Any thoughts out there. GC, if you want to know which host has this interpretation, just ask me.

'N' option is now an allowed alternative for all cribbage Tourneys

TD information is correct: 'N' option is now an allowed alternative for all Cribbage Tourneys.

There are multiple ways players can play cribbage GameColony & some of the cribbage version updates are controlled by GameColony while for other cribbage versions, it is up to the users whether or not to update their versions of the game.

It turns out that one of the older Cribbage mobile clients that is still popular with users always sets 'N' option in tourneys so that it is now an allowed alternative in all Tourneys.

------------
GameColony.com supports multiple cribbage clients, such as:
For desktop cribbage
- New 'blue app' and 'green app' cribbage, which work for all new browsers on both desktop and mobile platforms.
- Cribbage for Windows 8 and above - metro app
- older browser-based Java for Cribbage

Cribbage for android and iOS
- GC Cribbage for android
-Cribbage Live for iOS

I agree with Boardsailor here. This ruling should be changed. In the old java version you could also select not to show playing cards, but that has never been allowed in the past. The green and blue boards now default to that setting. I would recommend updating the rules to be consistent and not allow some, but allowing others.

Tournaments for Mobile users and 'N' option

At this time, for Mobile users of 'Cribbage Live' for iOS, and for older (un-updated) android 'GC Cribbage', taking away a default 'N' option may present difficulties for some players.
We are working on updates for our mobile cribbage versions.

Currently, if the player who sets the table in a cribbage tourney has difficulty taking off the 'N' option and the opposing player disagrees with that option, TD may either (1) explain how to change it or (2) ask the opposing player to set a table.

the "N" should not be allowed......I've never played a real tournament where you can not see
what cards have been played......

N in tournaments

I agree with BILLNLNCN. I've never played in a GC tournament where the N is selected. I think this is an unfair advantage to the player who sets the N

Note from webmaster:
With 'N' setting on, both cribbage players - -- the one who sets the table and the one who joins it -- do not see the previously played cards. In other words, 'N' setting does not give advantage to either player. With 'N' setting on, both cribbage players need to remember the previously played cards which adds an extra element of skill to the game.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
