Hi. Just played against player with 1400 pts, I had 1510. I lose first game and about 20 points, he gains 50. I lose second game and he gets another 50 putting him on 1500. I win third game and he remains on 1500 points. Cant work this out. Never seen anything like this. can anyone enlighten please. Thank you.

Ratings adhere to standard published ELO formulas used by USCF (United
States Chess Federation) & other sports federations.

Ratings depend on many factors:
* the initial ratings of both opponents (always)
* the result (always)
* how many games both opponents have played (in the case when one or both of
the opponents played fewer than 20 games)

Those who played fewer than 20 games are rated provisionally.
These players are helped [via separate but standard ELO formula] to ramp up their rating faster.
That also means that if they lose, their rating may not go down or your rating may not go up in case you win.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
