Ban option

I am a ladder player so I prefer not to play the same person twice within 24 hours because I remember when I was starting out, the frustration I felt at the higher ranked players playing the same person over and over and over at their table while I sat and waited for a chance to play the higher ranked person. So if they request a new game, I hit No. Sometimes they come back and try to hit start, to be a jerk, I guess. I hit 'ban'. Well, they are able to come back to the table as a 'watcher' then rejoin the table so the ban option needs improvement. I try to keep myself available for ladder games, to be fair to all the players on the ladder and when I have to waste 10 minutes booting someone out of my table, that takes away from my available time to play.

As I've mentioned before, I'm a ladder player so I like to keep myself available for ladder games. What annoys me is that people who come to my table aren't registered and I click start without knowing they aren't. Couldn't we put an option on the tables to prevent non-registered players from entering or have it show up in the rooms? Like '_ZerO_ 2064 (R)'. Something like that or the table option would be good.

I hate people that do that so what I do is ban them then change the table options to invitation only. They can come back as a watcher but not as a player. Alot of times the loosers get the hint and dont come back. Good luck bud.

Chess is meant to be a thinking game. A game of wit and strategy. I play my chess by thinking of my move and the next move taking in account what my opponent might play. I love to plot and this is the purpose and beauty of the game. A game of wits, plots and patience. I detest players who play speed chess as they are virtually taking away the essence, purpose and beauty of the game.
My timings are two minutes maximum per move. some moves are played within seconds so the game is not lenghty at all.

Speed chess players :For heavens sake play checkers and not chess!

IN PLAYING A LADDER GAME (UNLESS YOU ARE PLAYING FOR TIX) THE NEXT GAME IS NOT A LADDER GAME VS THE SAME PERSON. I SEEM TO FIND IN THE CHESS FORUM MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THINGS THAN IN ANY OTHER GAME. PLAY THE GAME PLAY IT FAIR, AND IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PLAY THE OTHER PLAYER THEN DON'T. A VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION.IF PLAYERS WANT TO PLAY 1 SEC GAMES AND YOU DON'T DON'T PLAY, SAME WITH A TEN MINUTE GAME. DO YOU HONESTLY PLAY FOR RANK OR FOR THE FUN AND CHALLENGE OF CHESS? IF RANK, THEN YOU ARE MISSING THE FUN OF THE GAME AND TURNED IT INTO SOME VENDETTA. SORRY FOR RANTING JMO. ENJOY PLAYING.

Speed Chess

CraftyKing, when it comes down to it chess is a battle between two minds; in a game of speed chess everything is equal and in most cases the greater player will win, but there are different rules. The importance of time is magnified greatly and sometimes the move that causes the most complications or forces your opponent into a hard defense is a better choice than the objectively best move. In any case, chess isn't just about having the time to calculate and figure out what is the best move; the intuitive processes and personality of the player should have a chance to show through and if speed chess does nothing else it forces you to rely on you intuition which in a longer game would come in handy. I did however notice that after playing nearly 12,000 games of mostly 1 or 2 minutes my patience for calculating variations and finding the objectively best move has really worn down so I would recommend that a healthy balance of speed games and longer games be maintained. And although many speed games are ruined by a moment of blindness on either side, I have played many games where the essence and beauty of chess has shown itself in a brilliant combination or positional maneuver. In some ways, because speed chess really is just about the intuitive, spit-moment decisions a person makes, it is more truthful (in some cases) than classical chess, less contrived and certainly as valid a form of the game. I bet if I posted some of my very best speed games (win or lose) alongside a few games played by higher level players you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and as far as checkers goes I'm not very good at all. Anyway, the essence of the game is still there and you should really consider playing a few 3 minute games to see for yourself.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
