You should probably play me and get your first point on the board. Am thinking of changing my name to 'neverwin'. I don't know the first thing about checkers, but it's a fun game. Would be good if someone could give some pointers on general ideas, learning resources, etc.

Please guys, don't use a name similiar to mine..LOL.

I'm definately not an expert, I tend to play just for fun. I sometimes even abort games that I'm about to win just to trip people out...LOL. I don't know if you guys are just starting, but here are a few general rules: tend to play for center control, attack your opponent's double corner while protecting yours, look for multiple jumps (duh...LOL), if your opponent is going to jump you then look for a move that will also jump him. Also, this is very big for people just starting out DON'T BE AFRAID TO MOVE YOUR BACK MEN!!! If you don't move your back men then it will be all of your opponent's men against only your front two rows. Moving the back man in your single corner is usually the first back man people move because your back row is still reasonably protected.

Watch games, read books, and practice practice practice.

ok

Sorry for not thanking you sooner. I missed that you had replied. Yes, I'm a complete beginner at checkers. I usually start my games by moving a man to the edge of the board. Is that generally considered to be a weak opening? Great advice about the back men.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
