Major even once per month

A few of us have been discussing this and although it could not work if held too frequently it might work on a once a month basis.
I suggest a big once-a-month tournament in backgammon for 20 tix and with 7pt preliminaires and a 11 pt final. Maximum 32 players and see how it goes. So it doesn't conflict with your GC bonus tourneys how about the second sunday of every month and with a start somewhere after 5 pm est. Avoids the football games many like but if they have to choose between that and this tournament then make it maybe 3pm in the afternoon once a month. A once-a-month woudl generate a good attendance and a look-forward-to-it attitude.
Thank you. Await your reply and input of all other backgammon players.
Very good idea !

I agree with StarForce. Backgammon is a game of skills and luck. Longer matches reduce somewhat the luck factor even if it always exists. It would be nice to have the opportunity to play longer matches.
I have just joined this site. I find it very nice. But I have not entered any tournament yet because I find matches of 2, 3 or even 5 points way too short.
Granted that a tournament with longer matches will take a fairly long time to play but I am pretty sure that some players would be very much interested by such tournaments. I know that I would be. Players who are not willing to play for hours would just not participate.
Bring serious tournaments on !

Sorry sent that last message too early!
Permission has been granted, watch the tourney page. I will get one up for you, 20TIX 7 PTS
However, please understand this could take hours to do if a few players turn up! Most TDs will not do this as we simply dont have the time. However, here's an idea.
I will do this one, if it works and there ARE enough players I can CERTAIN GC will continue these, and if more turned up I dont see any reason why it cant be run by a couple of TDs taking it in turns.
MAB and the webmaster would have to sort out softwares for this as TDs can only run their own tourneys.
Lets see how this goes. I will get one up on the page BUT IF YOU WANT A CERTAIN DAY / TIME LET ME KNOW ASAP.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
