Starting regular Canasta tournaments

Have talked to a few players and many like the idea of having tournaments scheduled in advance--even if its only 2 or 3 per week. Then people will plan for them and attend the ones they can knowing there is a regular tournament at the set time each week. Right now, thanks to TD okaylady, there are plans to hold a tournament every monday at 10 pm and every saturday at 10 am. The late nights will address the west coasters and the 10 am will address the Europeans and easterners as well as the early west coast risers. Hopefully some of the TD's will start playing in these canasta tourneys again as it was great when they played and attendance was 6-8 people for every tournament. We need to get those great European players back again. Even a regular saturday tourney once established could get the ball rolling. 3-4 tix tourneys are great to get more new players.

Would like to hear from the TD's and others about this.

I like your suggestion. I am not very good right now so will practice in the main room first. The set tournaments give peopple a chance to plan for them knowing they are always on at the same time. I noticed mondays at 10 pm got a great tournout last week and I am sure saturdays will as well if you keep them at the same time. Too many spread out the players I think.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
