Starting July 1 2005, frequent players in Ladder Tournaments and Ladder Mini-Tourneys will enjoy extra Ladder benefits.

Ladder Prizes
Ladder Prizes payable at the very beginning of each next month will be significantly increased:
  • 1st place Ladder Prize in Gin & Backgammon Ladders -- 50 Bonus $Tickets
  • 1st place Ladder Prize in Cribbage & Dominoes Ladders-- 30 Bonus $Tickets
  • 1st place Ladder Prize in Canasta & Pool Ladders-- 20 Bonus $Tickets
  • 1st place Ladder Prize in Chess Ladder-- 10 Bonus $Tickets
  • 1st place Ladder Prize in Checkers Ladder-- 5 Bonus $Tickets

    Ladder Points
  • A player will earn 1 Ladder Point for participating in any Ladder Tournament
  • A player will earn 1 Ladder Point for every Ladder Mini-Tourney with a fee equal or greater than 5 $Tickets.
  • As soon as the number of Ladder Points reaches 20, all of these Ladder Points will be converted to 1 Ladder rung advancement (step-up).
  • After the step-up, the Ladder Points will start again at zero. There will be a Ladder Point statement for each user, viewable by all.

Ladder is still FREE and non-Ticket players can still participate. It may take, however, as little as $5.95 to open a $Ticket account and enjoy an extra Ladder boost!

    New ladder rules

I am only new to GC, but from what I see most people in cribbage seem to play mini-tourneys at 1,2 or 3 $tickets (including myself, $5 too much on the Australian/US exchange rate lol), isn't $5 a little too high for one ladder point? Just my opinion!

We'll see how it goes ...

The Ladder rules for July, 2005 have been set.
Based on July, we'll see how it goes & whether tweaking the Ladder Points becomes necessary.

Ladder Points may have to be tuned per game. For example, 5 $Ticket games in Gin are far below average while same entry fee in Cribbage is somewhat above average. However, average Ladder boost from mini-tourneys may be still equalized among the players within the game...

Those players who generally have a 55% or greater winning record, may not view these rule changes as 'spending' but rather as opportunity to win.

Additionally, as prizes will be significantly increased (not just for the 1st place!), it is only fair that those who play in Tournaments and Mini-Tourneys frequently and, thereby, support this site, get an extra Ladder boost.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
