'Ladder points' are not good idea i think espesially earning points for any 5tic miniturney. Result - very few players wants play in normal ladder turneys now - seems no reason in +1 ladder place when could get +1 simply playing miniturneys
The Jury is still out on Ladder Points, but...

The winner of a Ladder tourney still gets an IMMEDIATE 1 Ladder rank advancement. Compare it with (a much harder to fulfill ) requirement for TWENTY 5 Ticket Mini-Tourneys for the same 1 Ladder Rank advancement! And .. if you are not aiming to win a tourney, why bother participating? As measured across all games, thus far the introduction of Ladder Points has NOT diminished the number of Ladder tournaments and games played. The Ladder rules for July, 2005 have been set. Based on July, we'll see how it goes & whether tweaking the Ladder Points becomes necessary. Ladder Points may have to be tuned per game. For example, 5 $Ticket games in Backgammon are below average while the same entry fee in certain other games is somewhat above average. However, the average Ladder boost from mini-tourneys may be still equalized among the players within the game...
Those players who generally have a 55% or greater winning record, may not view these rule changes as 'spending' but rather as opportunity to win.
Additionally, as prizes will be significantly increased (not just for the 1st place!), it is only fair that those who play in Ladder Tournaments and Mini-Tourneys frequently and, thereby, support this site, get an extra Ladder boost.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
