TAKING WINS! (and yes, I am shouting)
Posted by firefoXx (VIP) 27 Aug 2005 1:19pm

I was just wondering the opinions of other players about when to or when not to take a win, if given the opportunity.

I have recently been on the receiving end of losing, because my opponent took a win against me. Do YOU have no morals? Yes, YOU know who you are! And, believe me, I will NEVER play you again.

I would not take a win in any circumstances. If I don't EARN my victory, I don't want the ladder place or points! I would especially not take a win against a friend, in a tickets game or when a person runs out of time. If you need to leave the game, ask! I have been very close to winning a game, and given a valid reason, I happily aborted!

Ok, now I have had my rant... what's the opinion of others??!

Fire.

Hey guys and gal,

Its nice to have support from such high profile players such as yourselves. Especially as you all have such a high level of influence in the pool hall.

Its a shame more people do not agree with 'not taking wins', but hey, each to their own.

See you around people. Fire.

i agree whole heartedly. billiards is a game of skill and sportsmanship. those who take wins are poor sports and are only hurting themselves, as they will find it difficult to find future games. If u didn't earn it, don't take it. pretty simple really.........shame on those who do that, and don't blame anyone but yourself if you find it hard to find a game, no one wants to play a poor sport or a sore loser. Just my humble opinion.

Im only one of the little ones Foxxy and slow so often run out of time in half min games but the majority of players are decent enough to wait but I have come up against the odd few and they also know who they are and its petty and bad sportsmanship, particularly when they dont use it throughout the majority of the game but only when Im lucky enough to have THE WINNING SHOT !!!

Winning/losing

Win or lose, its just a game..as for cheating to win it..its plain low! Those who do will soon lose their rating..bcos those who dont cheat usually come up on top...

I agree but......

Whilst I agree with all of your comments about taking wins and therefore winning/losing by default, and the questionable ethics involved in so doing, is it right to get so upset by someone who does that? Please remeber all of you it's only a game!!!!!!!!!

is it being a poor sport when a player follows the rules? Personnally I will wait but if it happens to me I say "oh well". Been timed out in tourney's for being 3 sec's late. And god people, learn how to spell.

I will take the win if opponent times out... that is what rules are for. My time is valuable to me, sometimes I play b4 I have to got to work, and I do not have the time to wait and see if they are coming back

it's the ticket games that we are so angry about,"taking the win" but free games as well.
bottum line, taking the win isn't the only button there to push.
be more conciderate, either WAIT or ABORT

Yeah, sorry bout this people...

I was having a bad day. In future I will follow the *rules*, except against those people I respect then. Thx for the support from the select few who did post.

And it was great to speak to you again today David. All the best dude.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
