Tales of woe

Your worst luck? I'm not sure it gets much worse than this one. Fairly early on in the game I had a prime except the one and two points. He had mainly stacked up and had been forced to open on the 1, 3 and 4 spots in his defence with nothing made. He'd also put me on the bar.

Considering my chances to hit him and come quickly round I doubled it, he accepted (!!). I get a double 6, he closes the 1 spot. I get a double 1. He gets a double 4 and closes up the 5. Bearing in mind he's still got the 3 and 4 open. I get a 5-6..

I can't remember the other rolls but basically i was left on the bar and couldn't get round and ended up losing double and the match. All from having a shot on 3 open pips and not even coming in at all!

can top you easily

Backgammon stories can be astonishing. I can write a book about them. I can remember the date--December 2nd, 2004. I thought I would gamble and tried to play a fellow named darkwingduck for 100 tix a match of 5 pts. Well he won 6 out of nine and was getting game saving rolls to do it, but that is the easy part. He would get the 2-6 off the bar to get in and hit and instead of losing the match he would win it. To change something I changed it to 150 tix and figured his luck can't hold out. I won the next three games and rolled well but no miracle rolls to win a losing game. He changed it to 200 tix to change his fortune.

Well, I lead the next 5 pt match 4-0 and was barring off and rolled one bad number --he misses match is over ---I win $380 tix--he hits and its 4-1 for me and we play on. He hits the one shot and then proceeds to win the remaining games and wins the match. Next match 4-0 again for me and AGAIN barring off and I roll a bad number leaving one shot. He luckily hits again and and then wins that game--4-1 again. he ends up winning that match in fair games and that is two straight. Well without the bad number I win both OR without the hit I win both. Well down now to enough for one more 200 tix game i said one more--he can't keep getting the miracles to win. Well guess what, I again get out to a 4-0 lead and am barring off and he has 3 men on my 1 pt. I keep it even and then roll a number so only 2 men are on my 3-4-5-6 pts and 3 men on my 2 pt. Guess what magic roll comes up there???? 6-5. I leave a double shot. I was beside myself. He of course hit and then went on to win the third straight match 5-4 after trailing 4-0 in 200 tix matchs. I lost them all. Every match took a bad roll for a shot and an immediate hit for him to save the match and then he had to win two more straight and he did. He got whatever he needed to keep hiting and recover from being down. That was the worst day in my backgammon life. I took the dice to recover from down 4-0 and I didn't play it wrong. And he had to hit and got lucky and hit every time. I lost a huge amount that day and no one will ever be able to match that. And I regret having to have the worst story I can think of. He got the 2/36 rolls to hit. 3 men on the bar and got doubles against a 5 pt board . It all happened in the 15 5 pt matchs we played, and I lost most of them.

Sorry to say, your story was minor to that drubbing I took.

I still haven't recovered much.

Keep them coming.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
