Ma's policy for latecomers......FYI
Posted by utahma (VIP) 16 Nov 2005 3:51pm

Hi cribbers! I just want to make sure that everyone is clear on my policy for latecomers to MY tourneys. Remember - every TD has their own policy in this regard, and I want to be sure you know mine - and this policy stands for all my tourneys (whether cribbage, rummy, or other game).......I'm really getting tired of being the 'bad guy' - rules are rules....we are all adults and should be able to comply with them......I direct tournaments for FUN, and it is becoming quite stressful to deal with this simple issue.
A while back I added my policy into my rules, for anyone who reads them - I know that most of you know the rules by heart so you may have missed it....so here it is....'those not present at start time WILL be outed by TD and their tix refunded'. I used to say they MAY be outed - this changed a while back when it became necessary to be more precise. No exceptions, doesn't matter who the player is, or what the reason. If I don't see your name in my tourney room when I'm ready to click on 'start tournament' you WILL be outed.
Now this doesnt' require a whole lot of effort......to click on 'enter room' - one simple click so that your name is there in my tourney room. If you have other things to be doing, that is fine, absolutely okay. Just be present in that room and then go do your thing, try to get back in time. But for those players that simply will not comply with this rule, I'm sorry but the rest of us want to get started and play some cribbage! If I ruffle some feathers with a player or two to benefit the OTHER 5 or 10 or more players involved, then I will do so - those that come on time shouldn't have to wait on you.....you know when the tourney begins and you can show up a minute or two early if needs be to assure your spot in the tournament. You can't tell me that if you went to a REAL LIFE cribbage tournament or poker tournament or any other tournamente that they would actually hold up the ENTIRE thing for one person - I doubt that's true.
Plain and simple - please be on time. I want to have you all involved in tourneys, and I hope you will continue to attend. Everyone is there for a good time, not just you.
My rule stands - those not present at start time WILL be outed by td and tix refunded. 90 percent of the time these players show up RIGHT after I out you - but perhaps you might not want to cut it so close the next time.....try to come in just a touch early so there won't be an issue.
Common courtesy - -please remember to be considerate of the tds and other players in tourneys. Thanks and see u at tourney time!

players get so upset when they are outed, but it is there own fault. i recently outed someone in gin and they came into the tourney room and wanted to play. said they had trouble getting in. well i am not going to hold up my tourney waiting for someone who may never show up. i have to hand it to you ma, you took the words right out of my mouth. all i got to say is that players should try a little harder to be to the tourney at the right time. or even a little early.

thanks soooo much

Hey u guys, thanks so much for your support on this - I've been feeling like the big MEANIE here on GC because of this, but I'm glad that some agree with me on all this. Thanks again

but...

if a player is consistently late, especially if on purpose, then yes that player does not need to be holding up the tournament. However, what if we sign up seconds before the start of the tournament?? we aren't in the tournament room, you are getting ready to hit start and then you would out us?? Doesn't sound right.

Some people do have problems coming and going w/GC. I myself have had to close the site and come back in before when switching rooms. Maybe you should take these into consideration and maybe start a list of 'repeat offenders' rather than outting on a whim.

Yes, you host the tournament, but wouldn't the tournament be OUR tournament since we are playing in it?? Consider us the players, without us you wouldn't have a tournament. I'm just simply suggesting that you relook at it from a different angle. Think a little outside the box because there is much more there to be seen and considered.

think maybe u missed my point hon

I appreciate the other point of view hon, but I think you missed my point - being that I AM looking out for the players in the tourney - the ones who are there on time. I too have signed up for tourneys last minute, but I would totally understand if I DIDN'T make it on time. My rules specifically state my policy on outing late players - and now when I create tourneys I am sure to say 'DONT BE LATE' (hint hint). I suppose the only thing I can offer those who sign up last minute is just maybe hope we're running late, and that we don't start on time. I do one last check now before clicking start, and I've even started announcing who is missing, so that lobby records reflect that I DID check before outing them.
My only other advice to avoid headaches all round would be to join another TD's tourneys (not all TDs enforce this policy) - I only host 2 a day and there are plenty others to join in if you can't be on time......no biggie and no hard feelings I understand you all have schedules too - that's MY point, that these other players shouldn't have to wait for one if they made the effort to be on time, perhaps that's signing into Game Colony a few minutes early to be sure there are no log-in troubles.

why should there be a ???

Ma............you are fair........peeps should be in the hall at least by 1 min till......if they r not there.......well u called last call.
Do we have to beat this to death??????
If I am still in the tourney I will pour whatever u want....if u r not there well then pour your own,,,,,,,,,,i left it all on the back table anyways.......u just have to be present............to get drink of your choice

I agree - I too am getting really tired of beating this dead horse. Fact is, if you don't like my rules avoid my tourneys lol. Not to be mean or anything, but there are others you can attend. Most of my regular players ARE there on time, every time, and there is an occasional issue where someone may not make it on time - NOT THE END OF THE WORLD I too have missed tourneys, and lived to tell about it haha. Thanks for all your support, and lets all go on with life now lol. Love u guys Have a super day!

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
