Greatest of all time??

Who does everyone think the greatest chess player of all time is??
I think it is Kasparov. He dominance over the last 20 or so years speaks for itself. I know alot of people would say fisher, and alot of people would say some one from the late 1800's to early 1900's, perhaps Morhy. Just curious to hear some opinions.
Tough to say

Many great players over the years. the ones you suggest obviously make sense, Kramnik appears to be the main man these days but he wont ever dominate chess in the same way as Kasparov and Fischer, but was he ever that good? I think he gets the number 1 vote more for his eccentric personality rather than his amazing chess ability
I dissagree.

IMO Kasparov is still the best chessplayer today. The Elo-Ranking he leads on with a far distance to the 2nd Rank doesn't come from his personality but purely of the results he did in his chess games. His chessplaying abilities are amazing and I think he is the only person who could still be able to beat even the strongest and fastest chess-machines today.
I could be wrong, but...

...im pretty sure that Kasparov was one of Kramniks main teachers during his earlier days. So you can credit alot of his abilities to Kasparov. Last time i checked Kramnik was or had a winning record against Kasparov, but like alekhine said, he can beat the stongest machines in the world and he also has the huge elo lead, which he has had over everyone for about 20 years. Kramnik may have the potential to someday dominate the way kasparov has, but until that happens i think Kasparov is King. Put it this way, in the NBA, Kobe Bryant may have more talent than Michael Jordan ever had but he will never dominate the way Jordan did...he wont win as many championships as Jordan...and no one will never be considered the 'greatest of all time' until someone does accomplish more than him. Same goes for Kasparov.
Of all time?

I aim to achieve that title in the next 15 years - I speak with all humility, of course.
Who do you think....

...the best at gamecolony is/are? I think there would have to be 2 categories...one for 1/0 and 2/0 players....and one for longer games. I personally believe 'mimmi1' is the strongest bullet player, sorry mr_aleman, and for longer games i would say...well, i dont really know...Pilgrim is very strong, FritzBlitz seems to be the best around latley, and obviously any GM's that play here are very strong, i.e. GM_online, who comes about twice a year. Who do you all think is the best at gamecolony???
best on GC

For the 1/0 games mr aleman. I dont know mimi1 or others who are better; maybe the GM's but they play most of the times longer games.
For the long(er) games one of the GM's. Difficult to say who, most of the GM's have a rating lower than they're possibilities because there aren't enough 'good' opponents.
Who?!

...if it who i think it is. Any old time gamecolonist will tell you this(Webmaster,sead,sheriftoma...back me up on this). If he is who i think he is, his other names are Kushim,bigbigpacer,BOBBY_FUHRER, CAROLINA_PISKOTE...and that list continues. He used to come here everyday all day...i havent seen him here in a very long time. And i also said he is the 'STRONGEST' 1/0 player...aleman, speed is probably the main reason you are 2300-2500. You probably are second best though and i would say sheriftoma is 3rd at 1/0 games. sheriftoma used to lose 8 out of 10 vs. mimmi and mimmi could barely make 40 moves in a 1/0 game with a 56k connect. from croatia. I could go on and on all day but i wont. And, also, you being strictly a 1/0 player should know that rating has nothing to do with playing strength.
Just my Opinion

If I can cast my opinion...
Talking about the greatest 1/0 player in Gamecolony, I would have to go with mr_aleman!! Surely there are numbers of greatest players! But put it to the challenge: Play mr_aleman 10 games and I will assure that he will win at least 6 of it. He's awesome!

As of right Garry Kasparov is rated 2812, Vesalin Topalov is second with a 2801. Kramnik is 6th with a 2741 rating. Anand is 3rd, Svidler 4th, and Levon Aronian, a 23 year old is 5th with a 2752 elo. Kasparov, however, has not played an fide match in nearly a year, and has only played about 30 matches over the previous 3-4 years, I think his highest elo was 2849, wich he had around 2001-2002.
Thanks

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
